Many Cases are Settled During Court
The title is a bit deceiving because it hints at the obvious: that judges settle all cases once they get to court. But the real truth is many cases are negotiated to a settlement while the judge is out of the room. Many good judges will call a break in the proceedings and allow the two sides to negotiate their issues. I have seen entire parenting plans hammered out in the hallway outside a courtroom. This is the best moment to forge a deal. Everyone is at a maximum level of stress, the judge is commonly irritated at both sides, and both parents realize they have a chance of losing. I love negotiating in the hallway and it really works!
