Depositions

I often wonder what the reason for a deposition in Family is for. I have done them, but mostly, I have to attend the deposition with my clients. At times, they are useful, but in few and far between cases (my opinion). In most of the cases that I have to attend with my clients that are great money makers for the attorneys! You pay the hourly rate for the attorney, the court reporter and the cost to transcribe the deposition.
A deposition can easily cost $1000.00 or more and for what, to find out info that you have known for years since you were married to the person!
Definitely discuss the cost/benefit analysis with your attorney before requesting a deposition. Ask the attorney what purpose the deposition is being used for and when any information in the deposition will be useful?
Depositions can be useful when deposing a doctor or other parties, but really discuss the cost/benefit analysis with your attorney before allowing your attorney to demand that one has to be done.
