Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice ....

It is probably no surprise to hear that many people distrust attorneys. I have even heard attorneys are liars. But that is not my experience with the majority of legal professionals (notice I use the term legal-professional). There are attorneys, and there are professional attorneys. In my profession, your word is your bond. Normally, when another attorney gives me their word, that is like gold in the bank. I can count on it - and my clients can count on it.
But occasionally, I do run across attorneys that say things - with no intention of doing what they say. It is disturbing to me and embarrassing for the profession. The most important thing: that only happens once per attorney. Because once someone lies to me, that is the very last time I bank on what they say. Once they lie, they lose the big advantage of being able to make a promise to me - and not have it questioned.
So the moral of the story: Yes, some attorneys lie. Most attorneys do not lie. The ones that do, lose a tremendous advantage and will never have their word taken seriously again.
