  1. The "Hallway" - a great place to get things done

by , 09-24-2010 at 06:13 AM (Tampa Divorce Attorney)
Yesterday I realized, I did so something so common that it should be recognized as a powerful tool ..... I had a quick discussion in the hallway outside of a courtroom. When there is a scheduled hearing the two sides typically wait in the hallway outside of the courtroom. Because there is a scheduled hearing in front of a judge - the pressure is high. The parties are nervous. And the attorneys get a chance to think on their feet. It is a perfect storm of conditions that come together to create ...

  2. Dependency Court - Orange County

    by , 09-20-2010 at 04:43 PM
I recently found myself turning my car around (on my way to the office) and proceeding toward an Orange County Dependency Court Shelter Hearing. Every county is different - in some counties through what is known as Unified Family Court a dependency case will mean that your dissolution of marriage proceeding and any injunctions will be "unified" into one courtroom with one judge. 3. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice ....

    But occasionally, ...

  4. Depositions

    by , 09-08-2010 at 06:57 PM
I often wonder what the reason for a deposition in Family is for. I have done them, but mostly, I have to attend the deposition with my clients. At times, they are useful, but in few and far between cases (my opinion). In most of the cases that I have to attend with my clients that are great money makers for the attorneys! You pay the hourly rate for the attorney, the court reporter and the cost to transcribe the deposition.
A deposition can easily cost $1000.00 or more and for what, ...

  5. Gambler

    by , 09-08-2010 at 06:49 PM
As an Attorney in Family Law I often get asked, what are the odds of the Judge doing this or that? One tactic Attorney's will do is to tell you that the odds are fantastic in your favor, no matter the situation. I will not do that!!!!! I would rather tell you my experience in certain situations than guarantee certain outcomes.

As a Familly Law attorney I often feel like I am a bookie and my clients are asking me what the odds are? I do not like to gamble, I do not like vegas ...
