After 37 years of marriage both parties working FT jobs, wife obtaining 2 trust funds from her mom and grandfather is it accurate to say that she can ask for that money back after she has spent it over the years on household bills or items? She is wanting permanent alimony, all of the 401k and IRA and give up the house that can't be sold at this point in time with the economy the way that it is.

She cannot ask for the money back. Once it is spent on "normal" marital items, over a period of years, the money is gone.

That is not to say she cannot make a claim for alimony or other things.
