    Unhappy Alimony and ADA act

Hello and thank you for answering my question. I have been married for 17 years and I would like to obtain an divorce. He receives social security disability due to a car accident (not under ADA) 11 years ago. Before the accident we basicly made the same amount a money - sometmes I made a few thousand more and sometimes he did. Since the accident, I only make about 3,000 more since I only work part-time (30 hours) and have gone back to college. We have no property, we rent and have only 1 vehicle since he has multiple suspensions on his license due to arrests and not paying tickets when he had a vehicle. No household money went to my education since I received Pell Grants and scholarships.

He is now saying that it is best that we stayed married since I will have to support him because of the ADA act and will take half of my income. He is trying to scare me into staying married. We also have two children 11 and 5. Will I have to pay him alimonyicon (maintance) since he is on social security disability? Or will I not be required to since we have always brought in roughly the same amount of money throughout or marriage?

The ADA has no such requirement. alimonyicon and child supporticon will be considered strictly under Florida domestic relations laws. With that said, there is not enough here to give more info. You may want to come in for a free consult.
