Default Inheritance Money in a divorce

I have been married for 15 1/2 years. 5 years after marrying, my husband inherited a large sum of money, which he setup in his name only in a brokerage account. We have no prenups. The inheritance money is what we live on and neither of us has worked for the last 6 years. We live very comfortable. I personally have no assets and other than leased cars and a home mortgaged to the hilt, the inheritance money is it for us. Would I have a right to any of that money in a divorce?

Normally you would not have an entitlement to the money. But many attorneys would argue - because the money was used to regularly support the household - it has changed into a marital asset.

You need a good attorney to argue this concept for you.

Thank you for your answer. Do you know of any cases that have won?

Yes, there are situations where that argument won.
