Most sheriff offices will service process for a very reasonable fee. There is no time limit. But if the case never moves forward, most jurisdictions will eventually dismiss the case.

I was wondering what ways can I use to serve the divorce. I don't have a lot of money and the process servers I've talked to want around $100, can I use certified mail? I would hand deliver myself but my wife has moved to Michigan. Also how long do I have from the day I picked up the summons from the court house to serve her?

i called the sheriffs office where she lives and they told me that they would not do it and they refereed me to their local court house and they told me they do not serve out there and faxed me a list of process servers but because i live here in fl and i need to serve her in MI it cost to much thats why i was wondering if certified mail would be acceptable
No. You must use a process server.
