help for a friend

I have a friend who's wife kicks him out of the apartment they live in (both on the lease), he sleeps in his car most of the time, on top of that; she calls him name and argue with him everyday. He only work part-time cant offord another apart payment, what is the best thing for him to do.I dont think she have a right to throw him out the place he pays for as well. What is the legal protection he has, and what is the legal action he can take. I understand people have differences but can anybody throw someone out like that, does the person have any legal protection from being thrown out, please help.
