    Default alimony

If my ex served me with papers to modify or terminate alimonyicon, because he retired early...He is only 55. Was that filed with a court or was it something his attorney put together for him???The reason I am asking is because he stopped paying alimony back in April. Would that be the reason he stopped paying is because the attorney filed some kind of papers with the court system??Can he just stop paying without a judges order? I haven't received any papers froma judgeicon or the court system concerning this matter..Thank you

It sounds as if your ex filed something called a Supplemental Petition to Modify alimonyicon. If that is what you were served with, you have twenty (20) days to file your response with the Court. Your ex either drafted and filed the papers himself, or he hired an attorney to do so for him. No, your ex cannot stop paying without an Order from the Court, nothing is automatic. If he stopped paying, he can be held in contempt of Court. Most likely he is seeking to decrease his alimony obligation based upon his early retirement.
