    Default Motion of Contempt Hearings

My nerves are rattled...What happens at a Motion of Contempt hearing????My ex is behind several thousand dollars in alimonyicon...Is there a chance that I will get what I am owed???After 28+ years I need my money...Is a phone hearing better or should I make an appearance????I think it is ashame that I have to fight again for what I earned during those years...He only filed a supplemental petition to modify, and stopped paying alimony on his own...Thank you so much for an answer to calm my rattling nerves....I don't like any kind of legal problems,I don't know much about legal and I don't like being blindsided..Thank you

A Motion for Contempt hearing is a hearing where the moving party will argue/present evidence to the judgeicon that the other party failed to comply with something (court order). The Judge will either grant the Motion or Deny the Motion based on the evidence presented. If the Judge finds that the person failed to comply willfully then the Judge will order a remedy (usually monetary and attorney's fees if it is not a child supporticon issue). If your ex has a pending Supplemental Petition to Modify alimonyicon then it is not likely the court will hear the Motion for Contempt separately (these two motions have similar issues and should/can be heard together).
