Default How to get legal help when can't afford it

Trying to file for divorce with custody issues potentially but can't afford the expense of an attorney. As a single father with 2 children and daycare costs there is no extra for an attorney. I tried to see about legal aid services but I make just over the threshold for assistance. What should I do, the mother's home is not stable, children when they visit are staying in a single room with mother and her significant other and there are a total of 9-11 people in an 800sq ft house. Police have been there for domestic disputes several times in a week with children present. Need help...any ideas where to turn?

We have some assisted self-help services that may be affordable. There are also some self help packages available from each clerk of court.
