Alimony
Can permanent periodic alimony
be taken away? This was awarded to me and the stipulation was if I died or remarried, then it would end.

In order to modify permanent periodic alimony
the person must argue that there has been a substantial change in circumstance and that the need/ability to pay has been altered. I.e., a person paying permanent periodic alimony to ex finds himself permanently disabled and unable to work...the payee ex spouse might still have a need but if the payor does not have the ability to pay (and it is not a voluntary situation like quitting a job) then the court may modify alimony and take it away or reduce it. The "permanent" part is misleading.
