    Default starting divorce

I am thinking about filing for divorce. The house we live in, was mine prior to the marriage. Her and her 2 children moved in 9 years ago with me and my children. I refinanced and the state law required her name mortgage. I used equity in my home to purchase rental units which are in my name only. Will she have claim to my home that she has made no payment for or assited with maintenance or upgrades? I intended for this home to be my biological childrens someday.... Will she have claim to my rental units, which I maintain and pay for by myself? Tax returns show losses every year for these units, I just hold on to them for the appreciation.

Is there something I can so to prevent her from taking assets that just a piece of paper may intitle her to 1/2?

This situation is way too complex to give a simple answer. The flow of the money, the commingling with marital assets, and the fact her name is on some documents suggests this matter needs a thorough look.
