Question Overseas Marriage / Divorce in FL

My ex has been harassing my father with phone calls. He does not have my new number since I had to change my number due to my ex making many calls at very inappropriate times to my old number. The phone calls are not answered by my father; instead, he lets the voicemail pick up. In the messages, my ex requests that I send him the following information:

    1. my Social Security Number
    2. any bank accounts that I hold in my name or jointly with him in the UK
    3. any pension plans that I contributed to while in the the UK
    4. confirmation of my transferring the mortgage on the apartment to his name (a letter apparently would suffice)
    5. my current employer and salary

Now, my biggest issue with his request is my Social Security Number, which is NOT used in the UK in any capacity. (They use a National Health Insurance Number and it isn't the same as an SSN. I fear giving it to him because I do not trust him and believe he will use it deviously. He's requested my SSN before via email and telephone.)

Secondly, any details regarding bank accounts and pension plans that I had in the UK were left there. I did not take 95% of my possessions because my ex refused to let me have them.

Thirdly, I am a substitute teacher and do not earn that much even on a monthly basis. I want to file for a divorce here but cannot afford it.

My ex has said in these messages that he has had his barrister send a letter to me requesting the same information and that I would be able to email this to her if need be.

I cannot email my SSN and I do not understand how he or his barrister can ask that I do that. But why would they need it in the first place? I would gladly give any information needed -- within reason -- but I surely cannot give him information that I do not have or cannot give, i.e. my SSN.

I really would like to be done with this divorce, but the entire thing scares me since in the UK they have to put a reason (no irreconcilable differences at all) and I know he has blamed me and so I fear what may come of it. I, however, have photographic evidence to prove why I left the marriage (domestic abuse).

What would you advise in regards to the information being asked for, etc? If and when I do file for divorce here in Florida, how would I go about serve him papers if he is overseas? I cannot remember his address. I've made inquiries about publishing a notice in the local paper but it would cost £900 ($1800).

Thank you for all of your help.

I am sorry but you have a case that is too complex for a discussion board. I would suggest an office consult. In any case I cannot advise on a UK court case.

If you use the publication method the ad needs to be in a local publication. The cost averages around $200
