help - back child support

I am in a very stick situation. Off and on I am receiving back child support from my ex-husband. My ex-husband is telling my sons that I should be giving them the money when ever I receive the money. My boys are now 24 and 25 years old. Please correct me if i am wrong . I thought the two years when my ex did not pay child support and I continue supporting our children and I covered all medical ,dential,eye insurance on the boys plus he still was seeing the boys and not giving support. He would not tell me where he was working till he slip by giving on of our son his bussiness card.. Guess what he was working for child services.. Right under child support nose and hey didn't even catch that. He was working for them for almost 2years till I turned him in. Is back child support for the boys or is that money owed to me please let me know. Because I lost one of my sons because for what my ex has been telling them. When back child support started he owed over 39,000.00 dollars and he is now down to 11,000.00 never was put in jail either . My ? is when ever I get any money should I be giving them the money. Please answer.... please help me understand the law
