In a contested divorce, the court may choose to order either party to pay a share of the tax bill.
I was married in 1995 in Nassau Co and my wife filed for divorce in 2008.
We went to mediation and that fell apart and we haven't spoken since. the case is still open.
I worked and paid taxes and she lived off a trust and didn't pay taxes, therefore the taxes for the last year we were together are a point of
contention in the divorce. The IRS is sending ME threatening letters, even though I don't feel I owe them, I have been paying all along.
I am broke and can't afford to pay anymore. I just want her to pay what she owes and to have the divorce final so I can move on with my life without her or
the taxes dragging me down. Can you give me any advice as to how I can get these two things done as quickly and cheaply as possible?
I am desperate.
Thank you,
